AT&T, BURTON WINS!
Congratulations to NASCAR driver Jeff Burton, Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and the entire AT&T Racing Team for their win in the Food City 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway this past Sunday. In a spectacular ending, Burton and the AT&T Racing team edged out fellow RCR driver Kevin Harvick to capture the victory by a margin of .588 seconds.
“Man, this was an amazing win for the team. Everyone really pulled together in the end to pull this one off” said Burton post race. “I am really honored to be a part of this group, as well as to be representing AT&T and its employees who have backed us from day one. My hat goes off to them and all of my teammates at RCR for an awesome job.”
“It was a good day for us. We put ourselves in position, and that's how you win these races”, continued Burton. “We're not going to stand in here today and say we had the fastest car all day. We had good pit stops. We had good strategy. We did all the little things well. When you do all the little things well, a lot of times the big things take care of themselves.”
Burton's RCR teammates Harvick and Clint Bowyer finished second and third respectively, marking the first time in RCR's 40-year history had its cars finish 1-2-3 in a Cup Series race. When team owner Richard Childress was asked in a post-race press conference if his phone had been ringing off of the hook after the race, he replied “That AT&T phone just keeps ringing. I'm proud of it!”
This year marks AT&T's seventh season as the primary sponsor for the #31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet and fourth year with Jeff Burton behind the wheel of the Cup car. In 2007, Burton helped deliver yet another successful season for AT&T Racing, highlighted by a win at Texas Motor Speedway, nine top-five finishes, 18 top-10 finishes and a spot in the season-ending Chase for the Cup. Burton finished the year in eighth place in the point standings, marking the seventh time in his 15-year career that he finished in the top-10 in the championship standings.
